રિલે જે વિદ્યુત પ્રણાલીને નકારાત્મક ક્રમના ઘટકથી રક્ષણ આપે છે તેને નકારાત્મક ક્રમ રિલે અથવા અસંતુલિત તબક્કા રિલે કહેવામાં આવે છે. નેગેટિવ સિક્વન્સ રિલે જનરેટર અને મોટરને અસંતુલિત લોડથી સુરક્ષિત કરે છે જે મુખ્યત્વે તબક્કા-થી-તબક્કાની ખામીને કારણે થાય છે. નેગેટિવ સિક્વન્સ રિલેમાં ફિલ્ટર સર્કિટ હોય છે જે માત્ર નેગેટિવ સિક્વન્સના ઘટકો માટે જ કાર્ય કરે છે. રિલેમાં હંમેશા નીચા વર્તમાન સેટિંગ હોય છે કારણ કે નાની તીવ્રતા ઓવરકરન્ટ જોખમી પરિસ્થિતિઓનું કારણ બની શકે છે. નેગેટિવ સિક્વન્સ રિલેમાં અર્થિંગ હોય છે જે તેમને ફેઝ ટુ અર્થ ફોલ્ટથી બચાવે છે પરંતુ ફેઝથી ફેઝ ફોલ્ટથી નહીં. ફેઝ ટુ ફેઝ ફોલ્ટ મુખ્યત્વે નકારાત્મક ક્રમના ઘટકોને કારણે થાય છે.

एक रिले जो विद्युत प्रणाली को नकारात्मक अनुक्रम घटक से बचाता है उसे नकारात्मक अनुक्रम रिले या असंतुलित चरण रिले कहा जाता है। नकारात्मक अनुक्रम रिले जनरेटर और मोटर को असंतुलित भार से बचाता है जो मुख्य रूप से चरण-दर-चरण दोषों के कारण होता है। नकारात्मक अनुक्रम रिले में एक फिल्टर सर्किट होता है जो केवल नकारात्मक अनुक्रम घटकों के लिए काम करता है। रिले में हमेशा कम करंट सेटिंग होती है क्योंकि छोटे परिमाण के ओवरकरंट से खतरनाक स्थिति पैदा हो सकती है। नेगेटिव सीक्वेंस रिले में अर्थिंग होती है जो उन्हें फेज टू अर्थ फॉल्ट से बचाती है लेकिन फेज टू फेज फॉल्ट से नहीं। फेज टू फेज फॉल्ट मुख्य रूप से नकारात्मक अनुक्रम घटकों के कारण होता है।

A relay which protects the electrical system from negative sequence component is called a negative sequence relay or unbalance phase relay. The negative sequence relay protects the generator and motor from the unbalanced load which mainly occurs because of the phase-to-phase faults. The negative sequence relay has a filter circuit which operates only for the negative sequence components. The relay always has a low current setting because the small magnitude overcurrent can cause dangerous situations. The negative sequence relay has earthing which protects them from phase to earth fault but not from phase to phase fault. The phase to phase fault mainly occurs because of the negative sequence components.
