ગેસ ઇન્સ્યુલેટેડ સબસ્ટેશન (GIS) એ એક ઉચ્ચ વોલ્ટેજ સબસ્ટેશન છે જેમાં મુખ્ય વાહક માળખું સીલબંધ વાતાવરણમાં SF6 તરીકે ઓળખાતા ડાઇલેક્ટ્રિક ગેસ સાથે અથવા સલ્ફર હેક્સાફ્લોરાઇડ ગેસ ઇન્સ્યુલેટીંગ માધ્યમ તરીકે સમાવિષ્ટ હોય છે. GIS નો ઉપયોગ મોટે ભાગે થાય છે જ્યાં જગ્યા મોંઘી હોય છે. અથવા ઉપલબ્ધ નથી. GIS માં સક્રિય ભાગોને વાતાવરણીય હવા, ભેજ, દૂષણ વગેરેના સંપર્કમાં આવતા બગાડથી સુરક્ષિત કરવામાં આવે છે. પરિણામે, GIS વધુ વિશ્વસનીય છે અને AIS કરતાં ઓછી જાળવણીની જરૂર છે.

A gas insulated substation (GIS) is a high voltage substation in which the major conducting structures are contained within a sealed environment with a dielectric gas known as SF6, or sulfur hexafluoride gas as the insulating medium.A GIS is mostly used where space is expensive or not available. In a GIS the active parts are protected from the deterioration from exposure to atmospheric air, moisture, contamination, etc. As a result, GIS is more reliable and requires less maintenance than AIS.
